Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

Job description

Jane.ai is building an artificial intelligence platform to transform the modern workforce. Think of it like a Siri or Alexa for work, but with secure access to all your apps, documents and your institutional knowledge. Our Ai platform “Jane” is a virtual team member that everyone can chat with to access information and streamline processes. We are integrated with a who’s who of apps including Google Drive, Box, Salesforce, Zenefits, Office 365, Tableau, DOMO and 40+ others.  We support new ideas, collaboration, and the ownership of our product throughout the organization.

Jane.ai engineers enjoy the opportunity and benefits of working at an early-stage artificial intelligence startup, but in an environment much more akin to a later stage company given the experience of the founding team. The culture at Jane.ai encourages innovation, independent problem solving, and collaboration as we continue to mature our product in the ever-changing work of AI.

Jane.ai is funded by the EQUITY.com incubator.  As part of our dedication to the St. Louis community, Jane.ai is partnered with Create a Loop, a nonprofit focused on teaching kids computer science.

We're looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to join the team to oversee the day-to-day operation of Jane's cloud systems and deployment pipelines. The role includes continuously improving the tools and systems we rely on, fostering DevOps principles across the organization, and bringing your A-game to our Halloween costume party. As a startup, we value efficiency, but also lightness - we need just enough process and structure to be efficient, and we hope you align with that. You should be relentlessly organized, tech-savvy, and have great time management skills. But above all, you should have a passion for software engineering, automation, and building reliable systems.

The Work Includes:

  • Maintain existing and future software services code and configuration
  • Make recommendations for improvements to existing architecture.
  • Help implement new technologies in development for future deployment.
  • Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfers and mentorship to peers.
  • Help implement and improve development CI/CD software pipelines.
  • Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Offer guidance in micro service design and implementation.

We Have:

  • Employer-paid health care
  • Casual and diverse workplace
  • Free snacks
  • Unlimited Vacation policy
  • Stock options

Requirements

You are:

  • Energized to join a startup
  • Excited to mentor more junior engineers
  • Good at problem selection, problem solving, and course correcting
  • Focused on best practices
  • Highly pragmatic and collaborative

You have:

  • 5+ years experience with Linux systems (Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat, etc..)
  • 2+ years experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc..)
  • 1+ years experience with Kubernetes and Docker
  • Experience using Terraform
  • Proficient in 1 or more scripting languages (shell, Python, etc...)
  • Comfortable using source control tools (Git/SVN)
  • Experience maintaining services and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health

Extra Awesome:

  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc..)
  • Experience with Helm
  • Comfortable using source control tools (Git/SVN)
  • Understanding of user management systems (LDAP, Active Directory)
